We prefer to work with an adult population between the ages of 30-65 who has the physical ability to climb two sets of stairs. The ideal candidate for Surf Therapy Recovery is a professional over the age of 30 who has realized, through the rehabilitation process, that he has something to lose—his career, his financial security, his family—and does not want that to happen. He or she needs to have completed an in-patient treatment program successfully. We will accept self-referral from former patients, but all residents must be drug and alcohol free upon arrival. Our facility offers a setting where each person can transform the lessons of rehab into a methodology that addresses relapse through the viable management of stress, anxiety, and anger as well as developing a deeper understanding of family dynamics. In other words, we provide a time and place for that individual to regroup and reassess themselves prior to returning home.
Surf Therapy Recovery has gender separated housing within our home and can accommodate 2 men and 2 women. Men bunk upstairs in the “Man Cave”. Women have private rooms on the main floor by the lecture and TV area. All our residents will have a personal program developed specifically for them that reflects where they are in the recovery process. That program can include a traditional AA approach or a cognitive approach utilizing evidence based practices. Individuals presenting dual diagnosis have access to specialists in nearby Lake Jackson.
